WhiteHaven Canine Therapy Dog Visits
A visit from SZVA can spark a positive reaction like no one has ever seen before!
Szva is now in her 7th year of doing Pet Therapy in the Waco area. She has made 750+ visits and Szva holds the American Kennel Club's (AKC) highest rating as a Therapy Dog - Supreme! What is a "visit"? It doesn't matter if you are at a facility for 5 minutes or 5 hours; it doesn't matter if you see one person or 50. That is 1 visit...
Szva started with the Central Texas VA Health Care System-Doris Miller Dept. of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Waco and then branched out to visiting the following facilities of: Baylor University (several divisions), Providence Hospice - Community Healthcare of Texas, Encompass Health Waco, Mercy House at Waco, Mercy House Living Springs, McGregor Elementary School, Providence Village, Robinson Volunteer Fire Department, and Talitha Koum Institute.
Thank you, Szva, for providing such a great service to our community and bringing smiles to all you meet!
A visit from a Therapy Dog can offer tremendous benefits to adults and children of all ages in a wide variety of settings. These benefits include:
•Physiological improvements & Benefits - A visit provides a welcome change from routine.
•Easing communication with others - Children, the mentally ill, or depressed individuals communicate better with dogs than with people.
•Improving skills - Fostering reading abilities in children
•Physical improvements - which come from petting or playing with SZVA.
•Sharing happiness and laughter.
"The objective of a pet therapy visit is to provide comfort and
pleasure to someone in need."
Therapy dogs have significant health benefits and can reduce stress, anxiety and depression as well as provide a sense of connection in difficult situations. To many of the people, dogs bring back pleasant and warm memories of family pets from days gone by.
Sometimes a patient with depression who hasn’t spoken for a while will have a conversation with a dog. Difficult patients sometimes become more compliant when a furry face shows them affection and convinces them to follow doctor’s orders.
To Request a Therapy Dog Visit for your organization and/or facility, please complete the following form: https://form.jotform.com/240964004264149
There are ALWAYS requests for Therapy Dogs at local facilities and there is ALWAYS a need for more Teams to go in and visit.
There are numerous national organizations offering Pet Therapy membership. We visit under the umbrella and represent the therapy dog organization, Canines for Christ.
Canines for Christ's mission:
"Our Mission is to have the love of Christ shine through us and our canines as His disciples by providing a ministry of presence that actively engages with people who need the love, hope and compassion that only God’s message can provide."
To join C4C, they do NOT require an evaluation, but you MUST provide the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certificate or an approved Therapy Dog certification, and Proof of current rabies vaccination. They must also be a minimum of six (6) months of age.
WhiteHaven Canine does perform evaluations for the AKC Canine Good Citizen award.
C4C provides valuable and much needed support, such as liability insurance that you will need to make visits into facilities and they provide identification items to help identify you and your dog as a Therapy Dog Team. They require certain items to be done when making visits representing their organization and you will need to check with the organization guidelines to see their requirements.
