You are Loved and WE, your fellow Veterans, Brothers and Sisters need you. We care about you and want the best for you. But we can’t help you if you don’t reach out...
There are many people that need the services of a 'Task performing' Service Dog due to disabilities while others may only require an Emotional Support Animal.
WhiteHaven Canine is pleased to be offering training for ESAs. We obtain dogs from local shelters or donated from individuals, train them in obedience & service as an ESA, then donate the animals to Active Duty members & Veterans at no cost to them.
If you are a Veteran seeking an ESA, please complete the application in the following link:
Save a Dog, Help a Veteran...
Who knew that taking your family pet to obedience training classes could save the life of both a shelter dog and provide desperately needed support to veterans!
WhiteHaven Canine founder and Executive Director, Alan White’s mission is to do just that. As a Veteran & Military K-9 trainer and Service Dog owner himself, he uses the proceeds from obedience classes he teaches to carefully select and train shelter dogs to be Emotional Support Animals (ESA’s) for veterans in need. This year we are kicking off a capital campaign to build a facility so that we could help train and match more ESAs with deserving Veterans.
Many veterans are in need of a task-performing Service Dog to assist them due to PTSD, MST (military sexual trauma), TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury), wheelchair bound issues, to name a few. The process to receive a Service Dog can take up to 2 years due to each dog having to be trained specifically for that one veteran. For some Veterans, 2 years is a matter of life and death. In 2019, the National Veteran Suicide Prevention Annual Report was released, which stated that the suicide rate for veterans was 1.5 times the rate of non-veteran adults. EACH DAY, 22 veterans will commit suicide.
This year we were able to train and place 3 ESA’s free of charge to Veterans. Did you know that if WhiteHaven Canine had a facility we could train and place 5-8 times more ESA’s with deserving Veterans each year? That’s 15-24 veterans who will have the emotional support they need and 15-24 shelter dogs who will have a 2nd chance at life!
In 2020, we held 15 Group Training Obedience classes; 25 sets of Private Lessons/courses; certified 17 dogs as STAR Puppies; 39 as Canine Good Citizens; 10 as Community Canines; and 7 as Urban Canines. In addition, we were able to Certify 7 dogs and their handlers as Therapy Dog Teams to go into hospitals, nursing homes, hospice units, schools and other visits. With a facility, we could easily double these numbers.
*** UPDATE *** With the use of land and a building being offered, our goal has changed. We have decreased the need from $450,000 to only needing to raise $180,000 for the updates and training equipment needed to bring the facility up to be useable to hold classes (rain or shine; hot or cold!) for our clients and train support animals to further our mission. Would you consider a gift to help us reach our goal?
Your support and contributions will assist & enable us to: 1) Obtain shelter or personally supplied dogs; 2) Provide for Spay/Neuter surgeries; 3) Obtain needed shots, vaccines & microchips; 4) Feed & Train them as Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) and then donate the dogs to Disabled Veterans in need.
The cost to supply one (1) dog can range from $800-$2000 depending on the dog and the needs of the Veteran.
As a Public Charity, your donation is tax deductible.
